Ornaments

What would a Christkindlmarkt be without ornaments? Christkindlmarkt Door County has plenty for you to choose from in the Anderson House! Our 2024 “Ich liebe Door County” porcelain gingerbread heart ornament is exclusively ours and a limited edition. You’ll find an amazing selection of handmade “ugly Christmas sweater” ornaments that were a HUGE success at our inaugural 2021 market. This year we’ll also have a selection of new ornaments to help capture special Door County memories, from felted ice cream cones and lighthouses, to blown glass birds and campers, they’re sure to bring a piece of Door County to your Christmas tree! And finally, as always, we’ll have a selection of gently-used holiday items for sale at discount prices.

Collectible Glühwein Mugs

Hot mulled wine — called Glögg in Sweden and Glühwein in both Germany and Austria — is a staple of Christmas markets in Europe. What better way to warm up while shopping outdoors! It is typically prepared using red wine that is heated and spiced with cinnamon sticks, cloves, star anise, cardamom, orange, sugar and at times, vanilla pods. Some versions include an extra shot of rum or another liquor, others are made with white wine, and Kinderpunsch, made for children, is non-alcoholic. The Feuerzangenbowle version features the addition of a rum-soaked sugarloaf that is set on fire and allowed to drip into the wine. The Swedish Glögg version traditionally contains a bit more alcohol along with some fruit and nuts. Any version is delicious and a great way to warm up in the cold!

Another part of the Glühwein tradition is the souvenir mug it is served in. Most European Christmas markets feature a special mug unique to the market and the year. The drinks are served in these mugs and the price includes a deposit. You can return the mug for your deposit back or keep it for your collection of special Christmas market memories. You won’t want to miss the chance to get your very own Christkindlmarkt Door County mug, our fourth annual collectible mug, and designed by Ann and Alley Woelfel of Jack & Joie in Fish Creek (in the Bayside Shops)! Also available at Christkindklmarkt’s Drinks Hut, next to the Koessl Food Barn.
