As you take a step back in time at Sister Bay’s Christkindlmarkt, you’ll get a sense of the warmth and delight that met the German market-goers in late medieval times. By the early 1600’s, what started as a gathering to both buy and sell goods and celebrate Christmas, turned into an event solidly planted in the holiday tradition. During Medieval and Renaissance times, it would also be common to meet the local falconer there and barter for or purchase one of his hawks, falcons or owls for hunting. New at Christkindlmarkt for 2025, you can meet the Open Door Bird Sanctuary raptors, up close and on the glove, just like it was for the first market attendees. You’ll also see time-tested falconry equipment and learn more about the majestic residents of the Sanctuary, located near Jacksonport, as well as some of the history of falconry through the ages. We are excited to feature an appearance by ODBS and its raptors on three dates: Sat., Nov .29, Sat., Dec. 6 and Fri., Dec 12 from 1-4pm!
